Hi, I'm Sophia! I tutor VCE English, Maths, Business and Health and Human Development. I studied Economics at the University of Melbourne and am a VIT-registered teacher. I enjoy bringing a bit of energy to online lessons, especially when a student has had a long school day. We can work seriously without making every session feel like another test. I like using examples students can have an opinion about, from a business choice to the way a writer persuades an audience. It gives us a natural starting point before we work on the detail and the language a response needs.

I have three years of tutoring experience, including weekly subject support and preparation for school assessments. I've helped students make sense of data, organise business responses and develop more purposeful essay paragraphs. When students are juggling several subjects, we work out which tasks need attention first and what can realistically be done between lessons. I like to finish by asking students to explain one thing more clearly than they could at the beginning. I've also helped students break a larger assignment or revision topic into a sensible sequence of smaller jobs. During lessons, we might alternate a short discussion with a calculation or a piece of writing, depending on the subject. That variety keeps the work active while giving me several ways to see what the student has understood and what is worth revisiting next time.
