About Samuel
Hello, I'm Sam. I tutor WACE English, Maths, Chemistry and Physics online. I studied Mathematics at UNSW Sydney and am registered with TRBWA. I like getting students involved early in a lesson: a quick sketch, a rough answer or a first paragraph gives us something useful to work with. You won't need to sit through a long explanation before having a go. I'm happy for a lesson to start with something messy: crossed-out working, an unfinished answer or a list of questions from class. We can use it to work out what you already understand and where to begin. The aim is to keep you actively making decisions, with enough support to tackle something that feels challenging.
Tutoring experience
I have three years of tutoring experience, supporting students with weekly classwork and assessment preparation. My work includes rebuilding mathematical foundations, explaining scientific ideas and helping students express an argument clearly in English. I use shared notes and an online whiteboard so students can see how their answer develops. We usually finish with a new question or a short rewrite to check that the main point has stuck. I've also helped students turn general advice such as 'explain more' into a specific change they can make. We might add the missing link in a scientific explanation or show how a quotation supports an English argument. For longer questions, I encourage a quick outline before the full answer, then a check that every part of the task has been addressed. Students can return to our shared notes when practising the same skill later.
