About Olivia
Understanding a concept and retrieving it under pressure are different skills. I help VCE students develop both in Maths, Psychology and Health and Human Development. I hold a Psychology honours degree from Monash University and VIT registration. My style is measured and practical, with an interest in how students organise knowledge and notice patterns across a course. I am interested in the habits students can sustain through a busy term, including checking their recall and giving attention to topics they find less comfortable. Lessons balance reassurance with a clear picture of what needs work.
Tutoring experience
I have supported students with research methods, reading data, health-related case studies and mathematical reasoning. My work includes preparation for SACs and exams, as well as helping students recover confidence after a disappointing assessment. I use their own answers to identify missed links, unclear terminology or a method that needs more practice. This has also involved helping students interpret the limitations of a research finding or compare health information without making a claim the data cannot support. We practise selecting the relevant concept before developing a response.
Teaching approach
We revisit earlier material in small doses, then tackle a current topic. I ask students to explain an answer without looking at their notes and use the gaps to choose practice questions. The revision plan changes as their understanding develops. Students help choose the next revision priority by explaining which questions felt uncertain. I use that conversation alongside their written work, so a lucky correct answer does not hide a misunderstanding.
