About Jessica
I'm Jessica, and I like lessons where students feel comfortable disagreeing, asking for another explanation or admitting they're lost. I tutor VCE English, Psychology and Health and Human Development. My Psychology degree from Harvard and VIT registration underpin an interest in how students learn and communicate. Most of all, I want you to leave with a clearer idea of what to do next. You don't have to sound polished to take part; a half-formed idea gives us something to discuss and develop.
Tutoring experience
During four years of tutoring, I've worked on essay development, psychological research questions and applying health concepts to case material. A recurring part of my work is helping students replace vague answers with a specific explanation and relevant evidence. I've also helped students connect a definition to the details of a study or health scenario, rather than repeat everything they know about a topic. We look for the part of the evidence that makes the explanation convincing.
Teaching approach
We talk an idea through before writing it down. I use quick recall questions and short written tasks to check understanding, then give focused feedback. Lessons can slow down for a difficult concept or become more demanding when you're ready. When revising, we'll mix familiar questions with new contexts and talk about which parts of your method can stay the same.
