About James
Hi, I'm James. I tutor SACE Maths, Biology and Chemistry, and I enjoy showing students how these subjects overlap. I studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Queensland and am registered to teach in South Australia. A question about cells might become a discussion about chemical reactions or interpreting a graph. Those connections can make a large syllabus feel less like a list of unrelated facts. I like giving students room to make a sensible guess and then work out how they could check it.
Tutoring experience
My tutoring includes support with calculations, biological explanations and interpreting results from investigations. I've worked with learners who want a stronger foundation as well as students preparing for timed papers. I help them identify which questions need more thought, present working clearly and review answers without simply reading through a solution. Regular sessions also give us time to return to difficult material after a gap.
Teaching approach
We use a mixture of discussion, diagrams and independent practice. I ask students to identify the information they need before choosing a method. Near an assessment, we practise selecting and completing questions within a sensible time limit, then review the decisions made. We also compare the result with the original question, checking that the units, evidence and final explanation all tell a consistent story. That review is part of the practice, not an afterthought.
