About Emma
I help HSC students make better use of the time they spend studying. My subjects are English, Maths, Business and Health and Movement Science. An Economics degree from LSE gave me an interest in how people interpret evidence and make decisions; my NESA accreditation supports my work as a teacher. Based in Newcastle, I offer online sessions with clear priorities and room for students to ask the questions they held back in class. I like to show how a clear plan can make a demanding task feel more approachable without lowering the standard of the work.
Tutoring experience
I have supported learners balancing several demanding subjects, from students catching up after missed lessons to those refining their exam responses. Much of my work involves reading assessment feedback with students and turning broad comments into specific next steps. In Business this might mean applying an idea to a case study; in English, connecting evidence more closely to an argument. I've also helped students decide how much detail a response needs, checking that examples add to the explanation and that calculations are supported by sensible working.
Teaching approach
We agree on one main goal before each session. I ask you to explain your first attempt, challenge any gaps in the reasoning and help you revise it. A brief review at the end keeps your next study session focused. We revisit those priorities when new assessment feedback arrives, rather than carrying on with a plan that no longer fits.
