Hi, I'm Emily! I tutor HSC English and Business online, and I particularly enjoy helping students turn a page of scattered ideas into an answer that makes sense. My BA in English from the University of Sydney and Master of Teaching (Secondary) inform a practical, encouraging style. You can bring a paragraph you're unsure about or a business concept that just hasn't clicked; we'll find a useful place to start. I like students to have a voice in the lesson, so we'll talk about what you find interesting as well as what feels difficult. A good discussion can be the starting point for a much stronger piece of writing.

I've supported students with close reading, essay planning, business case studies and revision for timed assessments. Some arrive with plenty to say but no clear structure; others need time to work out what they think before writing. I use discussion, brief writing exercises and feedback on their own attempts to address both. I also help students build a manageable weekly revision routine, especially when several deadlines fall together. For example, we might compare two possible openings to an essay or decide which details from a case study best support a business recommendation. I help students understand why one choice works better, rather than simply handing them a model to memorise. Before an assessment, we also practise making a quick plan and leaving enough time to check the answer against the original question.
