About Daniel
My SACE tutoring combines subject teaching with close attention to written reasoning. I offer English, Maths and Chemistry, supported by a Chemistry degree from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Teaching (Secondary). I like lessons to be focused and unhurried, with enough time for students to explain an answer in their own words. I encourage questions about the purpose of a step or the meaning of a term, especially when a student has been using it without much confidence. That discussion often makes later practice more productive.
Tutoring experience
I have worked with students preparing for assessments, consolidating class topics and improving the clarity of their responses. Chemistry sessions often involve connecting a calculation to the process it describes; in Maths, I help students justify each step. In English, we examine how an argument develops and whether the evidence supports it. My feedback is specific: I point to a section of the student's work, explain the issue and ask them to try a revision. Online notes give us a record to return to in later lessons. I also help students distinguish between a response that is incomplete and one that is simply too brief. Sometimes the missing element is a calculation; sometimes it is the sentence linking an example to a claim. We work on those decisions using short tasks before attempting a longer answer. Students are encouraged to explain the revision they have made, so that the feedback becomes something they can apply again.
