About Benjamin
Hi, I'm Ben. I studied Physics at MIT and tutor QCE Maths, Biology and Physics as a QCT-registered teacher. I love a good 'why?' question, whether it's about a graph, a moving object or a biological system. My lessons are lively but focused, and I'm happy to take a different route through an idea if the first explanation doesn't land. I like students to feel that curiosity belongs in an exam subject, even when we are working towards a particular assessment.
Tutoring experience
I've worked with students who enjoy science but find formal questions difficult, as well as learners who need to rebuild confidence with calculations. My tutoring includes interpreting diagrams, making sense of experimental results and practising explanations that connect an observation to a principle. I also support students who want to stretch their understanding with less familiar problems. We also explore how a diagram or graph tells the same story as a written explanation, which helps students move between different forms of information.
Teaching approach
We often begin with a prediction: what should happen, and why? Then we test it using a diagram, a calculation or the information in a question. I'll ask you to talk through your choices so we can catch a misunderstanding before it becomes a habit. I'll sometimes change one detail and ask you to predict how the answer should change before doing any more working.
