About Alex
My VCE tuition in Physics, Chemistry and Biology centres on precise explanations and independent problem-solving. I hold a Chemistry degree from the University of Melbourne and Victorian teacher registration. Based in Melbourne, I teach online across Units 1-4. Chemistry is my academic starting point, while my broader science tutoring connects calculations, experimental evidence and biological processes. I work particularly well with students who want organised lessons and detailed feedback on their reasoning. Understanding a worked example is useful; being able to explain why the method applies to a different question is the next step.
Tutoring experience
I have nine years of tutoring experience, supporting students with regular study, SAC preparation and end-of-year revision. My work includes helping learners analyse unfamiliar data, compare scientific models and write conclusions that stay within the evidence. We use a student's recent answers to identify whether the difficulty concerns knowledge, interpretation or expression, then choose practice that addresses it. For Biology, this may involve turning a remembered sequence into an explanation of cause and effect. In Chemistry and Physics, we examine assumptions, units and the meaning of the final result. Lessons include time to revise an answer after feedback, so students can see what improved and why. I also help students plan a realistic revision week, balancing current topics with earlier material that needs another attempt.
