About Adam
I help SACE students turn uncertainty into a workable next step. My subjects are English, Maths and Psychology, and my background includes a Psychology degree from ANU and South Australian teacher registration. I offer calm, organised online tuition from Adelaide. I am particularly interested in helping students notice how they approach a task, so they can choose a useful strategy when working alone. I value honest reflection about what is working. A student who can identify the kind of help they need is already taking a useful step towards greater independence.
Tutoring experience
Students I've supported have needed help with essay structure, interpreting research findings and working through mathematical problems. I've also helped learners establish a study routine after falling behind. We examine examples of their work together and distinguish a gap in knowledge from a difficulty understanding the task. That distinction makes the next lesson much more useful. This has included helping students check whether their chosen evidence answers the question and whether they have explained the connection clearly enough.
Teaching approach
I start by asking what feels manageable and what doesn't. We choose a task that exposes the difficulty, work on the relevant skill and return to the original question. Students keep a brief record of the strategies that helped. We also look back at a recent success and identify what made it possible, so that the student's plan builds on strengths as well as difficulties.
